Thoughts and Steps: Meeting Generation Z at the 2024 Plenary
In May 2024, the Schools Beyond Regions and Borders (SBRB) network gathered in Trento and Renon/Ritten for its annual plenary meeting: “Thoughts and Steps – Meeting Generation Z”. Over four inspiring days, students and teachers from across Europe came together to learn, create, and reflect on what it means to grow up and act in today’s world.

Day 1 – Ice Breakers by the Lake & Theatre in Trento
The plenary opened at the beautiful Lake Caldonazzo, where students got to know each other through ice breakers and team-building activities led by Forum Trentino per la Pace. Laughter, games, and shared challenges created the foundation for friendships that would grow throughout the week.

In the afternoon, participants moved to Liceo Da Vinci in Trento for a theatre workshop with Adam Pritchett. Inspiring, dynamic, and engaging, he encouraged students to explore creativity, teamwork, and self-expression in new ways.

Day 2 – Presentations and Debate
The spotlight then shifted to the Philharmonic Society of Trento, where the formal plenary session took place. Students proudly presented their projects, showing how education and collaboration can cross borders.

Later, at the University of Trento, Professor Sara Lorenzini delivered a fascinating lecture, “Europe in the World,” sparking reflections on Europe’s place in global dynamics.

Day 3 – Meeting a Champion
The plenary then moved to the Renon/Ritten plateau, where students had the unique opportunity to meet Tania Cagnotto, Italy’s most decorated female diver, World Champion (2015) and Olympic medalist (2016). Her story of determination, resilience, and success inspired the audience to pursue their own goals with courage.

Day 4 – Walking and Reflecting
The closing day combined nature and reflection. A walk along the iconic Freud Promenade set the scene for deep conversations about identity and resilience. The plenary concluded with a seminar led by psychotherapist Piero Ferrero, who invited students to reflect on the challenges of Generation Z and the importance of patience and self-awareness in personal growth.

The 2024 plenary was more than just a meeting—it was a journey. Through shared experiences, cultural exchange, and inspiring encounters, the event strengthened the bonds within the SBRB network and empowered students to take their thoughts and steps into the future of Europe.
